The Gordon Center for Integrative Science

Gordon Center for Integrative Science The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is located in the Ellen and Melvin Gordon Center for Integrative Science, which was completed in 2005. The Gordon Center brings together under one roof faculty in the biological and physical sciences, generating a truly interdisciplinary research environment. Also housed in the Gordon Center are the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the Ben May Cancer Research Institute, the James Franck Institute, the Institute for Biophysical Dynamics, and the Department of Chemistry.

Ellen and Melvin Gordon have made a donation of $25 million toward the University of Chicago's largest science building. Second in size only to the University's Joseph Regenstein Library, the Gordon Center encompasses 400,000 square feet at 929 E. 57th St. The building was designed according to strict specifications to control cleanliness, temperature, vibration and other environmental factors needed to do cutting-edge experimental science in the 21st century.
